I just picked up an HP ENVY Touchsmart 15t and want to connect to wirelessn but it does not see the wireless n band of my router. I do see the g band however. I fiddled with some of the driver settings but it did not make a difference. I have a work HP Ultrabook and never had a problem so I know the router is okay. BTW, it is a Belkin AC1200 router. I didn't see updated drivers on HP's website but got some updated ones from Intels website.
You probably already know that each network interface card (NIC) on a network must have a media access control (MAC) address. Each address must be unique to the network, and should be globally unique. However, you might have the need to change the MAC address on a system.
I can't believe this is an issue. I use to work on network cards back in the day and find it hard to believe this wouldn't be standard/tested functionality. Any thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated!!!! Okay no one from HP seems to be answering this so I will give it a shot per my research so far. Before I picked up an HP ENVY Touchsmart I heard the grumblings about the network card so thought I would be smart and pay extra for one with Bluetooth thinking it would be a more comprehensive card. As it turned out I got the Centrino 2230 which is (I believe the card that is) pretty much useless for Wireless N!
The signal bounces up and down like a yo-yo. I use to work on network cards and tried every trick in the book but couldn't get it to work. One workaround is to set your 2.4hz band to only transmit g and it should be okay. It's when it tries to connect with the n protocol, where the issue is. Not to mention that it can't see my 5hz band at all because it is a cheapo card! Even my work HP Elitebook which is a much older laptop can see the 5hz band. So end result download and upload speeds are HORRIBLE.
My analogy is that puting the 2230 network card in the HP ENVY Touchsmart for network connectivity is like putting shopping cart wheels on a Corvette! Such a beautiful machine and such an idiotic choice. They could have went with the ' Intel Network 6235AN.HMWWB Centrino WiFi Card Advanced-N 6235 Dual Band Bluetooth' card which retails for a paltry $22 on Amazon.
Penny wise and pound foolish or perhaps they have a boatload in their warehouses? I have ordered one and from reading the Amazon reviews it sounds like it works great in this particular model. Oh yes another thing I found out which I am not too happy about with HP is that they whitelist devices. Hence you may buy a card much like this and found that the BIOS will lock you out. I don't understand why they do things like this but thank goodness in this case, this card is compatible!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow that's interesting that Intel is coming out that there are issues but I applaud them on that!
I did replace the card and it went well. Hard to get that section of the back cover off. Also some tiny screws and two tiny connection wires that need to be re-attached to the new card. (God I miss the old fat plug in PCI cards.:-) ) So care needs to be taken with that but other than that worked great. I initially had all sorts of problems and I believe it was because in my effort to fix the 2230 I downloaded this bad set of drivers that the previous reply is talking about. So I uninstalled the pro wireless software and then had it auto detect the drivers and it selected an earlier version and then everything worked.
I am guessing the default windows driver will work but I think because I previously had that installed it wouldn't work. If I had to do it over I would have de-installed the 2230 first (otherwise your new wireless network will be called wi-fi 2) and also the proset wireless software.
If you don't uninstall the 2230 first before you swap the card then go to device manager and select hidden devices to get rid of it. For seem reason removing it (I think also helped) along with (as I mentioned) the Intel auto detected java plugin detecting the older version of the drivers seem to be the thing that finally did it for me. I had full bars all around and signal strength is phenomenal for 2.4 and 5ghz bands. I also used these recommended settings from Intel for both the card and the router For some reason my Belkin Router needed WMM enabled for devices to work with these settings. Hope this helps someone. The Intel Centrino Wireless N 2230 chipset can't connect me to a netwrok and can't detect my Iphone portable hotspot. Can I return this product to you or could you change another model of chipset that it works?
That is very annoying to realise that HP knowingly supply an inferior product to the customer!!! If this is not solve, I want my money back! Otherwise, I would just write review on every single online forum that available to prevent others to fall in the same problem.
Worst come to worst, I will just walk in to the consumer affair department to make a complaint. HI Disapointed-HP: I regret you are having difficulties connection to the Internet. I will be happy to help! Have you tried the provided solution listed in the above post by Petey555?
What was the result? Here is a link to the Intel Driver page. You could also run the HP Support Assistant to assist with updating the drivers. Here is some additional documentation for your review that may be of assistance.

As stated in Petey555's post you may need to change some setting on your router. For assistance with that, you could contact the router manufacturer ( or their website) or your internet provider. Your customer service officer has been giving me empty promises, could you help to change other officer to handle my case. My laptop is with HP since 6 Dec 13 and until now I still have not getting any conclusion. And your Officer Mr.
Raymond told me that he had submitted a request for a replacement whereas I was asking for a refund. I had spoke to him and reminded him on several occasion on the refund, yet he could make such mistake. Furthermore, he refuse to transfer my call to his manager. I have asked him to ask his manager call back.
I hope that this will happen by today. I bought a HP ENVY 17-j053ea Notebook PC Product number (P/N): E7A75EA and it unfortunately only came with Windows-8 which meant I had to spent a lot of time downloading endless updates and patches before it was even remoetely stable. Once I had managed to boot directly to desktop and to restore the start-menu, I was pretty stable, and although it took forever to boot, I could use it. Two weeks ago came yet another raft of post 8.1 fixes and the final one killed the wireless completely. No matter what I do it cannot find any networks and the only clue is that the adapter is called 'Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230 #2' yet there is no evidence of a #1?? Since the upgrade the HP Assistant crashes upon load and the Windows network troublshooter says there is something wrong with the driver but cannot fix it? I would take the laptop back under warranty but have spent so much money on other software such as MS Office, Winzip, Start-8, etc, I cannot afford, and do not see why, I should buy it again.
I can only say that I am REALLY DISAPOINTED with the lack of performance of W8(WAIT) as it seems to be much slower than my very old W7 HP laptop running W7, and cannot understand why there are so many compability problems with it. Samsung Kies.
