Kajol and Dhanush coming together in a movie for the first time, the title has to connect with the masses. Both the actors have a huge fan base in the North. Dhanush’s debut Hindi film Raanjhanaa (2013) was a massive hit and the actor even won the Filmfare Best Debut Actor award for his performance. VIP 2 is Kajol’s second Tamil film in two decades.

She debuted in the Tamil industry with 1997’s Minsara Kanavu. ‘ Lalkar’ is the sequel to VIP film which released 3 years ago.

Apart from the fact that Dhanush returns as the favourite Raghuvaran after three years, this time a Bollywood actor like Kajol has joined the cast. The cast also includes Amala Paul and Vivek. But his righteousness irks an egotistical, conniving woman who becomes hell-bent on taking him down.

Talking about the performances in the film, Kajol is a good choice to play this character, who feels entitled, is arrogant and stubborn as much as she is self-made and successful. Her first encounter with Raghuvaran sets the stage for their conflict. Do Check: Shalini is the dominant person who keeps everyone on their toes.

The father, played by Samuthirakani, is now more of a friend and guide, the role that his mother played when she was alive. Talking about the mother, the film does overplay the mother sentiment a bit. The entire fast half, though enjoyable, it is something that we’ve seen already and there is nothing fresh. The background music could have been a lot more impactful and one cannot avoid the feeling of missing Anirudh’s punch in the movie.
